COMMERCIAL TEST & TAG

Testing and tagging is a sure-fire way to ensure the safety and reliability of your commercial electrical appliances. Not only do they enable everyone to work with comfort and confidence – they’re required under Australian safety legislation for all commercial businesses.

HOW WE CAN HELP YOU

Voltmeter

COMMERCIAL TEST & TAG PROCESS

We can assist with all aspects of testing and tagging, carrying out comprehensive checks on all types of commercial electrical equipment.

The test and tag process consists of a qualified electrician performing a visual inspection of an electrical appliance, and then conducting more detailed testing with a specialised Portable Appliance Tester (PAT).

During the visual inspection, they’ll check for common signs of wear and tear, as well as other types of damage, such as missing appliance components. The PAT tests, meanwhile, assess insulation resistance, polarity, and earth continuity. When this is complete, your appliance will be labelled to show when and by whom it was tested, and whether it meets current safety requirements.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
TEST AND TAG - COMMERCIAL ELECTRICAL SERVICES

Can testing and tagging be done at the same time as my usual electrical safety inspection?

Indeed it can! In fact, we offer testing and tagging, where required, as an inclusive part of our commercial electrical safety inspections.

How often do I need to test and tag?

Current Australian regulations recommend testing and tagging at the following intervals:

  • Every 3 months for equipment used in building, construction, and demolition.

  • Every 6 months for equipment in factories, warehouses, and production facilities.

  • Every 12 months for equipment that’s otherwise used very frequently, or whose supply cords are prone to damage or abuse.

  • Every 5 years for equipment that doesn’t meet any of the above criteria.

What should I do with an appliance that’s marked as unsafe?

Unsafe appliances will be tagged with a “danger” or “do not use” label. They’ll either need to be repaired or replaced before they can be used again. If this happens, don’t worry too much – our electrical contractors can advise you on the best course of action.
