FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
CEILING FAN INSTALLATIONS - DOMESTIC ELECTRICAL SERVICES
I’ve heard that newer ceiling fans have summer and winter modes.
How does this work?
There’s usually a switch on the fan that will allow you to change between the two modes. Each changes the direction in which the fan blades rotate: one way will cool your room, while the other will help warm air to circulate, instead.
What’s the difference between AC and DC fans?
AC stands for “alternating current”, and DC for “direct current”. These terms describe the flow of electricity to your fan. While AC fans are generally more affordable, DC fans are more energy-efficient and have a wider range of control and settings options.
Is it better to have a fan with more or fewer blades?
For the most part, the number of blades your fan has affects little more than its appearance. However, fans with more blades tend to require a little more electricity to power, potentially making them a bit more expensive to run in the long term.
